The SE comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a sunroof, chrome exterior trim, keyless entry, full power accessories, automatic dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, an 6-way power driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, and an eight-speaker sound system with a touchscreen, a CD player and an auxiliary audio input.

The engine is a 2.5L, a 2.5-liter inline-5 cylinder rated at 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is paired to this engine. In Edmunds performance testing, an automatic-equipped 2.5 Passat went from zero to 60 mph in 9 seconds, which is average for the class. EPA estimated fuel economy stands at 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

The 2012 Volkswagen Passat's list of standard safety features includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags.
